A Travel Protection Membership, Not Insurance
Return Assured℠ is a travel protection membership that covers the return of a member’s remains when death occurs more than 75 miles from their legal residence. It is not insurance. Membership provides service benefits delivered through American Pre-Arrangement Services Inc. (APASI), the pioneer of the Travel Assurance Plan. Return Assured℠ is APASI’s service-mark partner. APASI has been providing these services since 1994 — more than three decades — and serves more than 400,000 members.
When Coverage Applies
Coverage applies when a member dies more than 75 miles from their legal residence. No service is provided for deaths 75 miles or less from home. Your legal residence must be in the United States or Canada, and is defined as the place where you resided for 180 or more days in the 12 months before death. Coverage is worldwide — wherever you travel, home is within reach.
How It Works
When a death occurs, your family — or whoever is with you — makes one call to APASI. APASI then handles everything: confirming identification, selecting and coordinating with a funeral home near the place of death, preparing the remains, arranging transportation home, and managing government paperwork and red tape. There are no caps on covered expenses and no out-of-pocket costs to your family for covered repatriation services.
Why It Matters
Bringing a loved one home can cost up to $11,000 within the United States and more than $40,000 internationally. Without a plan, grieving families face sudden logistical burdens and unexpected bills at the most difficult time. Return Assured removes that burden with a single lifetime membership.
One Payment for Lifetime Membership
Through Journey Secure, membership costs a one-time payment of $350. There are no dues and no expiration. If you cancel within 30 days of signing your application, you receive a full refund; after 30 days, no refund is available. Members receive a certificate of coverage and two wallet ID cards — one to carry and one for your next of kin.

To report a death while traveling, call one of these 24/7 numbers: US/Canada 1-800-947-8306; outside the US/Canada 1-301-656-6569. APASI must be contacted at the time of death — by the family or by anyone acting on the member’s behalf — and if APASI is not contacted, benefits cannot be provided.
