Headed south for the winter? Your plan home should already be made.
Every year, Canadians head south — to Florida, Arizona, Texas, and beyond — or set out to see the world. If the unthinkable happened while you were away, the people you love would have to arrange bringing you home from another country, in shock, at the worst possible moment.
A Return Assured℠ lifetime membership is how you spare them that. You make the plan now for one $350 payment — and if you pass away more than 75 miles from your legal residence, one call from your family sets everything in motion: the preparation, the paperwork, and the whole journey home, with no unexpected expenses for them.
Journey Secure is an Authorized Independent General Agency for Return Assured℠. The membership is open to legal residents of Canada and the United States alike, and it covers you worldwide.
Made for Canadians who travel
- Every logistical detail handled for your loved ones — identification, coordination with a funeral home, transportation arrangements, and the government paperwork, including the cross-border documentation a return to Canada involves.
- One call, day or night — your family calls APASI, the service provider behind Return Assured, at 1-800-947-8306 (US & Canada). Outside the US and Canada: 1-301-656-6569.
- 100% of covered transport costs — no caps on expense and no out-of-pocket costs for your family for a covered return. Bringing a loved one home internationally can cost more than $40,000.
- Your Canadian legal residence counts — you qualify with a legal residence in Canada (your residence for 180 or more days in the 12 months before death), and you’re covered more than 75 miles from it, anywhere in the world.
- One payment, for life — a single $350 payment. No annual dues, no renewals, no expiry. Full refund if you cancel within 30 days of signing.
- Works alongside your other plans — the membership doesn’t conflict with funeral prearrangements, and it isn’t insurance and doesn’t replace travel insurance; it does the one job travel insurance doesn’t: bringing you home.
A note for snowbirds
If you winter in the US, you’re living 1,000+ miles from your legal residence for months at a time — precisely the situation this membership exists for. Provincial health coverage and travel insurance focus on medical care while you’re alive; neither arranges or pays to bring you home if you pass away. One call from your family does.
Questions Canadians ask
I’m a Canadian resident. Can I join?
Yes. Return Assured membership is open to legal residents of Canada and the United States. Your legal residence is the place you live for 180 or more days in the 12 months before death — for most snowbirds, that’s still home in Canada, even while wintering in the US.
How does the 75-mile rule work?
Coverage applies when death occurs more than 75 miles from your legal residence, which must be in the United States or Canada. No service is provided for deaths 75 miles or less from home. Coverage is worldwide beyond that distance.
What does the $350 cover?
Everything involved in bringing you home: APASI handles the identification, selects and coordinates with the funeral home, arranges transportation, and completes the government paperwork — with no caps on expense and no out-of-pocket costs for your family. The plan you make now is what spares them arranging — and paying for — all of it themselves.
How do I enroll from Canada?
Start with the pre-enrollment form. An authorized representative will contact you to confirm your details, have the application signed, and collect payment. No payment is taken on this website. You’ll receive a membership certificate and two wallet ID cards.
