How does the 75-mile rule work?
Coverage applies when death occurs more than 75 miles from your legal residence, which must be in the United States or Canada. No service is provided for deaths 75 miles or less from home. Your legal residence is the place of residence for 180 or more days in the 12 months preceding the date of death — verified through voter registration, driver’s registration, and/or other means. (A nursing home counts as residence if the stay exceeded 180 days.)

Your coverage follows your legal residence — the place of residence for 180 or more days in the 12 months preceding the date of death.
Is Return Assured insurance?
No. Return Assured is not insurance. It provides service benefits through APASI (American Pre-Arrangement Services Inc.).
What must my family do if a death occurs while I’m traveling?
APASI must be contacted at the time of death — by the family or by anyone acting on the member’s behalf — and if APASI is not contacted, benefits cannot be provided. All services must be provided by APASI — there is no reimbursement for independently arranged services.
I already have a prearranged funeral plan — do I need this?
Return Assured does not conflict with a funeral prearrangement and is available whether or not you have one.
How do I enroll?
Go to our Enroll page and complete the short enrollment form — or email enrollment@journeysecure.com and we’ll help you get started. We do not accept payment on this website: after you submit the form, we will contact you to answer your questions and confirm your details — before you sign or pay anything. We will then collect the one-time $350 membership fee. Once your enrollment is processed, you’ll receive a certificate of coverage and 2 wallet ID cards — one to carry with you and one for your next of kin.
Can I purchase a membership for someone else?
Yes — a Return Assured membership can be purchased as a gift for someone you love. Adult children often buy it for aging parents, and parents buy it for children who will be attending college out of state. Start their pre-enrollment on the Enroll page: the member signs their own application, so it cannot be a complete surprise, and we will contact you to confirm the details and collect the one-time $350 fee. No payment is accepted on this website, and enrollment is complete once the application is signed and payment is made. The member receives a certificate of coverage and two wallet ID cards.
Is Journey Secure the only place to get Return Assured?
No. Return Assured membership is also offered through participating funeral homes and mortuary services, often alongside a funeral prearrangement. Journey Secure is an Authorized Independent General Agency that offers the membership on its own — no funeral prearrangement required.
