Common questions
What happens if I pass away on a cruise?
Your family makes one call to APASI, and APASI handles everything from there: confirming identification, coordinating with a funeral home near the place of death, preparing the remains, arranging transportation home, and managing the government paperwork and red tape. If APASI is not contacted at the time of death, benefits cannot be provided — which is why members carry their wallet ID cards, so the number to call is always within reach.
How does the 75-mile rule work?
Coverage applies when death occurs more than 75 miles from your legal residence, which must be in the United States or Canada. No service is provided for deaths 75 miles or less from home. A cruise puts you more than 75 miles from home almost as soon as you sail. Your legal residence is the place of residence for 180 or more days in the 12 months preceding the date of death.
